My daughter had the same symptoms on her 90 Olds wagon. The ECM was toast caused by a bad ground on the right rear corner of the engine. It is shared by the VSS and AC clutch. AC cycling on would spike the VSS and give overspeed readings, ruined the ECM before... Login to read more.
