Why do big end rod bearings fail?

We have a 1982 Ferarri engine here, x8, 3 litre 308 motor. Vehicle came in with a rap and low oil pressure. Found the big end rod bearing on one cylinder beat paper-thin. 3mm free play on crank. Slight damage to crank. Clearly we caught this before it really b... Login to read more.
