One of the "legs" of the Wheatstone bridge in the MAF is an air temp sensor.

I'm not sure on the FORD MAF strategy, but most systems use the air temp sensor as a reference to heat the hotwire to a predetermined temperature above what ever the air temp sensor... Login to read more.
