Cut the end from the filter housing with a Dremel wheel, some sparks, no fires. Picked the metallic "fingers" from the end and the metal stub came out. I got the new replacement retainer inserts from Dorman. I hate dorman stuff, but this looks pretty bulletpro... Login to read more.
