When I have encountered similar wheel cylinders (mostly in VW/Audi vehicles), the tab was mostly oriented opposite the backing plate.. I believe the idea was the backing plate kept the shoe(s) from drifting inward and the wheel cylinder tap kept them from drif... Login to read more.
