Dan, thanks for replying. I probably should have mentioned in the OP that the car in the shop now had a new turbo in the last year. BUT whoever did it had no business with a wrench in their hands. None of the fasteners were tightened, the exhaust manifold gasket was missing, and they damaged the oil return tube causing an oil leak. So maybe the turbo they used is garbage as well. We had noticed the car would smoke on heavy acceleration, but I still question if the cold start smoke is the same problem. Would a turbo failure cause massive amounts of smoke only on very cold starts with no smoke whatsoever on warm starts?
