GM 1.4L Smoking When Cold
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 2/5/2021 10 Replies

Hey guys, we've had 2 different 2017 Chevy Trax in the last week with a smoking concern. The first happened here at the shop when we started it on a very cold morning to bring it in for a LOF. It belched out a large cloud of gray smoke from the exhaust, then cleared up. The customer hadn't mentioned the concern and it never happened again for us. The second car was brought by the customer who described a very similar situation and wants the car repaired so it won't happen again. But the problem is so intermittent and I wasn't able to find any common repairs when I researched a bit. I did find a TSB about ice forming in the PCV or intake, but the repairs listed sounded like a bit of a parts cannon aproach. So just looking for some feedback if anyone has seen this with the 1.4L and what works to fix it. Thanks for reading.
