If a lot of these old Rangers are like mine, the owner's manual specifies 85-90w gear lube for the transmission. I changed gear oil in mine at 40,000 and couldn't get it in 2nd gear when the trans was cold. ATF or BG Syncro Mesh oil works great. Obv... Login to read more.
