Back in the day, I replaced quite a few point plates; i.e. the pivoting plate hooked to the vacuum advance that the points mounted on. The pivot pin/hole would wear and get sloppy, making the dwell swing wildly. The quick test was to disconnect the vacuum line... Login to read more.
