Battery draw from hell
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 11/29/2018 29 Replies

I need a little direction here, pulling my hair out, loosing sleep.... We have a 2010 challenger with the 6.1 hemi. Has been to the dealer and several shops before us. The complaint is a dead battery every morning. I checked a draw, 4.0 amps. Started with the fuse removal process, found when fuse was pulled for cluster, draw would slowly drop down and go away. Confirmed this multiple times. During the draw i did do a code scan, found all the modules on the can b buss awake and responding. We sent the cluster out for repair, thinking it was keeping the modules awake. After the repair, checked several times, draw would drop to .02a every time. shipped it out. came back a week later, same problem. can bus b modules will not go to sleep. I have gone through the car, disconnected each module one at a time, can get draw to go away after all are disconnected. Reconnected each module one by one, found draw would go away after a minute of so until i got to the dash and the amplifier, with either one plugged in, system is awake, 4 amp draw. Now it is sitting there with both of them unplugged, 2.6 amp draw. something is keeping the cab bus on, i am suspecting the tipm, but due to the amount of time and money spent so far, its hard to pull the trigger. The only things i noticed that are odd, interior lights do not come on if you open the door after shutting down the engine, but if you open the door before shutting down, they work normal. Draw is not there after shut down, happens some time during the night, but fortunately says there for me to test in the morning. Not sure if related, doesn't matter how its shut down, draw is there. i have tried all combinations of modules unplugged and plugged in, seems to have a mind of its own, just when you think its solved or narrowed down, cab bus come alive and more hair is pulled out. Any insight is appreciated, hoping someone has seen a similar issue to help my next best educated guess.
