Hi Beevo. Most "Classic" S/T trucks and utility models Blazer/Jimmy up to '98 used the smaller 7.625" axle.

BTW, The ring gear was upsized from 7.5" in the '80s and the 8.5" also upsized to 8.625". The current AAM axles are known as 8.6"
