GLUE FOR NYLON FUEL TANK PARTS
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 11/7/2018 20 Replies

This vehicle has a 26 gallon gas tank. When I dropped it to possible repair an E-VAP leak I noted that that the top part of the E-VAP / vent connector that is on top & near the front of the tank was loose due to apparently a poor glue connection from the factory,of the 2 parts..ie the main part cemented into the tank & the top half that was glued to the bottom portion where the control diaphragm is a part of.Anyway I cleaned the parts which were along with the rubber "O" ring type of seal which seals these 2 parts when put together are ok but I need a very strong glue that will adhere to these nylon type of plastic parts.I have never found any glue that would stick solidly & permanently to nylon types of plastic.I had checked into maybe just getting a new tank for the customer but the cost for 26 gallon tank was astronomical..over $850.00 just for a tank no matter where I checked..Mopar or after market. The 34 gallon tank which Chrysler also uses was only less than half that price but this vehicle has the 26 gallon one so that is why I want to try to repair it.Some used ones I checked into all were rusted badly at the steel fuel pump hold down connector that is molded into the plastic tank so that would be a no go for used. Two questions... is there any glue that will glue nylon strongly & correctly so I could repair this part as to have no leaks due to E-VAP problems from a poor glue connection that would arise & two.... would the larger 34 gallon size tank work & bolt right up into the original spot without any mods? This truck is a 4 door short box unit. Thanks in advance to all who may reply.
