Settle an arguement
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 5/25/2018 69 Replies

Two mechanics were discussing erasing codes from a 2014 Chevy Cruze.

The codes that they were trying to erase were p2070 and p2077 "permanent". and the handheld tool they were using would not erase them.

One tech suggested disconnecting the battery for a time. The other suggested disconnecting the battery and connecting the positive cable to the negative and letting it set for a time. The 1st tech laughed and said "there is no reason to connect the two cables, it is a waste of time".

I have seen others suggest doing this on IATN.

So, what is the reason? Why would someone think that connecting the two cables together would do anything different than just disconnecting the negative?

Looking for input. What are your thoughts?
