Engine noise
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 11/20/2017 15 Replies

Journeymen good day.

My very good friend (20+ years) Has a super clean Sable vin attached. When first started it is very quiet. Then as it warms up it develops a chirp from the rear of the engine. Pretty much below the throttle body. From the sound it its something rotary contacting a stationary part. This is a pushrod engine so I'm assuming its the cam shaft. Since I know doo dah about this product line but have searched Ford and found that there lots of V6s I could really use some guidance here. Which letter of the VIN is engine so I can look up parts diagrams. What could the cam be rubbing on? How important is this for longevity? The noise does get very noticeable and increases with warm up. But it also goes away with RPM from 2k up. Makes me think its end play on the cam.

Obviously I'm floundering around for answers. I will grateful for any insight! Just a clue to the engine letter will help. Or is this a pattern happening?

Let the good times roll!
