Pull the oil dipstick out and put a vacuum gauge on the dipstick tube.

I had a Ranger with a PCV system issue several years ago. IIRC, the fresh air side was blocked, and there was too much vacuum in the crankcase, and it was sucking air past the crank seal.... Login to read more.
