I've done many without the special tools.... a flat file makes a great cam timing tool. For TDC on #1 I drop a 3/8 extension down the spark plug hole and use a round-out guage to find TDC. Yes, you shod loosen the cam sprockets. They are not keyed... that allo... Login to read more.
