The screen is there to keep debris out of the VVT solenoid & actuator, so when the screen breaks apart it ends up in/ jams the solenoid &/or actuator. If cam timing is off by 20 or 40 degrees at idle, that will affect engine vacuum & idle quality. Login to read more.
