I'd suspect such also. Wonder how long since the last oil change? Or if GM's Dexos was involved.

Looks like a pretty weak planet gear to me. Wouldn't take much to shatter it. Maybe being driven by a distributor shaft wasn't such a bad idea! Login to read more.
