My brother had one of those tanks (77 or 78 W200) years ago. It was full time 4WD like yours. It didn't have "unlockable" hubs- the front stub axles splined into the hubs. (You had to line up a hole in the hub in order grease a zerk for the front wheel bearing... Login to read more.
