We have Toyota 1kz-te engine(drive by wire) on a bench.this engine idles fine but at wot it rattles,sputters sometimes i hear diesel knock.we checked compression,timing,fuel system & we have no codes,sometimes engine cant rev above 1000rpm.so i am thinking about playing with this engine to improve my troubleshooting skills.

this electronic rotary injector pump has 1.scv(Spill control valve) solenoid 2.tcv(timing control valve) solenoid 3.fuel cut solenoid 4.speed sensor

please guys i want to learn how to troubleshoot this engine to find any problems.let say if u guys have this type of problem what is your test approach or procedure?i am very glad if you guys can share links of technical forums or study material most importantly kindly share your personnel experience so we can all go forward.thanks in advance.
