6 stands for 6 cylinder and 8 stands for 8 cylinder. I know on the 5.7l there is a 6 & 8 on the distributor housing. Not sure about the 4.3l. For the 5.7 you line it up with the 8 and on the 4.3 you line it up with the 6. Login to read more.
