I've done a few 'amateur' tune ups myself..... sigh. Happens to all of us. Rust in the plug hole is a good way to not get it seated all right.

I also like just a tiny DAB of anti-sieze on my plug threads. Torques nice and they are a breeze next time. Login to read more.
