I had a Windstar that would intermittently "no start." The fuel pump also spiked to 8 amps on occasion. Reseacrh here led me to replace the pump. This was around 5 moths ago. I have since scoped many a fuel pump and have not seen any "spikes" on good known pum... Login to read more.
