Rob, I have no experience with oil consumption on this car but similar 2.0 motors we service do not have problems. As an aside if VW now uses the 1500 figure they are getting soft. It used to be required DOCUMENTED by a dealer 1 qt in 800 miles before any warr... Login to read more.
