Rise divided by run . Then multiply the decimal by the run to get percent.

100 foot rise in 800 feet run is 1/8 or divides to .125. 0.125 times 100 for a 12.5 percent grade.

1 foot rise in 6 is 1/6 or 0.166. 16.6 percent grade.
