Lewis, to set P1493 the PCM has to see <.5V for 3-seconds on C3-15.

You are right, it is a neg. coef. sensor (thermistor) supplied with 5-V.

Might consider intermit. grd. on circuit between PCM and sensor or sensor taking it low at times.
