I built mine just like yours. A nut to fit inside the adjusters welded to a pipe about 3 foot long with a 5/8's socket welded to the other end so i can get a 1/2 drive pull handle on it. How much did the tool cost? I haven't looked for one mine worked so good. Login to read more.
