I did the same thing once. Put a 7808 regulator on to see if it would run with no 8v reference. Only I heard a pop down by the trans when I hooked it up. Then the 8V on the ecm came back. Car ran fine after that for ever more. I suspect it had a melted harness... Login to read more.
