I just did a motor on a 2001 montero sport, last week. Replaced water pump and t-belt. I felt the same you are feeling(for a few min.), had to wait a few days for parts. The big bolt hole is for the bolt on the accesory bracket that goes in front of the cover.... Login to read more.
