An easy way to 'quick-ID' a CAN system is to look at the DLC for pins 6 and 14 to have contacts in them. Part of the SAE rules for CAN says that pins 6 and 14 shall be used for generic CAN communication. I just learned this in an ATG class a couple weeks ago. Login to read more.
