Yes start at the 9 pin data port. Measure the resistance of the 2 data lines (the shielded twisted pair) should be 60 ohm, and test at every module they go to. Back probe while testing not unplugged. Unless you have an open or 0 resistance then start unpluggin... Login to read more.
