I agree with Tyson, It is usually the tubes broken from the egr valve to the manifold or cooler. It may due it worse on a cold engine at idle since the exhaust pressure govenor (epg) is closed causing back pressure on the exhaust. This opens up on engine warm ... Login to read more.
