I know that on the D(egr) model engine the fan's 5v supply is shared by the boost temp sensor (which is in the top of the intake) and the oil pressure sensor. If unplugging the fan solenoid doesn't make the 5v fault go inactive try unplugging the boost sensor.... Login to read more.
