7/16th bolt head is very, very close to 11mmm ie. 11.1125mm. As far as sockets/spanners go, both fit each other.

So an 8mm bolt head would "suit" a 5/16th socket but with some slop.

Now if the thread/shank was 8mm then I need to check on actual spanner siz... Login to read more.
