I have thought about your post/situation. Have you asked all
of your techs, what can I do to make you happy? Have you
listened to the gripes of the tech, in your sights? I would
like to hear what his comments, complaints, pot stirring
actions are.
I bet the two stay there because of the money they earn, and
you have not fired one or both, because it would be a
monumental task to replace them, master techs that produce
are not an easy find, I bet you know this. And looking at
your shop web page, it looks like you work on a lot of
German vehicles, as well as many other makes, now I believe
you have two, very talented, experienced, valuable guys
there. Correct me If I am wrong, so far.
Firing them would cost you a lot more than taking care of
them.
Why don't you treat them like you do your best customers?
They make you more money in a year than any customer!
This is a toxic industry, have you considered they are a
product of their environment?
So, again, ask them, all of your staff , what can I do to
make your day, job, time at work, easier? Ask them what it
will take to stop the bitching?
I would like to hear their response, I think this is a
critical first step to identify the CAUSE of the PROBLEMS
you have asked guidance on.
People, and a shop are not easy to manage, add customers,
now you have a challenge. As you have stated. I hope you
share what the two desire to be happy. It often is within
reason, and cost. But if you don't know what is important to
them, how can you manage them, or fix your concern. If your
system of operation causes them some grief, you may be able
to meet 1/2 way. Meeting half way in all relationships, is
the only way, a healthy relationship will endure, there is
my wisdom thought. You do this for your best, or all of your
customers, are you caring for your employees as MUCH?
For the tough love, fire them crowd, SHAME ON YOU, out of
the frying pan into the fire is what I see in that advise,
the beatings will continue until morale
improves...…………..
I hope to hear your thoughts on my advise.
Its only money, lots of money.
