38K used tranny is back in and vehicle is running good. Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply. Seems parts for this thing are a bit on the high side and customer wanted to get it done dependably for less. So the used trans was his best option.

Thank you for telling me to remove the belt. It turned out to be the grooved idler pulley near the power steering pump. For future reference, a noise exactly like a air filled power steering pump, it may be a pulley. Again, Thanks
