I borrowed a different scanner and was able to get codes out of the computer one of which was a crankshaft postion sensor code. I replaced the crank position sensor and that has reapired the problem. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.

Thanks for the help on this one. Checked for head gasket leak, no leak there. Ended up being a faulty cap, had a leak causing a vacuum which had enough pressure to push the antifreeze out of the over flow. I guess gravity and pressure plays a part in this one....
