Strut Failure
Posted to Shop Management Forum on 6/22/2017 38 Replies

We have had a few unsettling events where front or rear struts seized after lifting a usually 7 or 8 year old vehicle by the frame, for tires, brakes, suspension work, or even an oil change, I understand why this happens, ( internal bumper turns to mush, settles, & holds a check valve closed ), but how can we in this industry protect ourselves from the consumer backlash in these cases ? The research I've done points out mid-size GM's, Rav 4's, & Hyundai Elantra as common cases, and when it has happened here I have repaired the vehicle at cost in order to avoid a negative review and satisfy my customer, I would appreciate some thoughts and/or experiences with this from veterans, like myself, on this matter. Thank You.
