Are SOPs right for your shop?
Posted to Shop Management Forum on 7/28/2016 8 Replies

Meeting your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) obviously is important to you as a repair or collision shop owner or manager. But do your employees recognize the importance? Are they in line with the correct steps needed to achieve these goals?

Creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are the best ways to ensure each employee knows the proper method of performing various jobs throughout the shop. Utilizing SOPs also ensures that business can continue should any employee be gone for any amount of time, and can keep you on track to meeting your KPIs.

Depending on what the SOP addresses, its structure will vary. But each one should cover the what, where, when, why and how of individual shop procedures. The editorial staffs of Motor Age and ABRN have created a whitepaper outlining how to develop SOPs and have included an example you can use to get started.
