You're getting paid to perform a service and offer an
opinion, not to change a customer's mind. Why are you so
dead-set on the customer seeing things like you do?
If the customer is hell-bent on buying the vehicle anyway,
you're not doing yourself any favors trying to change his
mind. If he's going to buy it anyway, he may be offended and
take it elsewhere for the needed repairs.
If it were me, I would be congratulating the customer on
what a smart buy he made and build up his ego. While telling
him most people aren't as sharp as he is, I would be also
selling him on the needed work at the same time making it
like a "partnership" type deal. Sort of like a project
vehicle to get in top working order. Buddy up to him and
make a sale. Know what I mean?
There's opportunity in every situation.
