Credit Card Processing, Don't Get Screwed
Posted to Shop Management Forum on 7/31/2014 49 Replies

Hi All,

We have been with a credit card processor for several years and I guess have been happy. No problems, but the expense stings, so when Alex from PayProtec called me and told me he could save me a lot of money I was skeptical but thought I would let him show me. He came out and ran a spreadsheet after analyzing my last few months with my then current processor. The discounts were about the same, however the fees were a lot lower, all told we would save between between one and one and a half mortgage payments a year. AND we would have next day funding to our bank account on anything run before 2:00pm local time. WOW, how could I refuse? I mean I don't get a raise that big very often!

So we signed up. Then things went downhill. The new (free) machine came but it would only run debit not credit cards, that took two weeks to straighten out. But finally everything worked, I kept my old machine active while I ran some test charges with my personal card. Yep they hit the bank and the amount was correct. Oh by the way I must mention, during the time that I was dealing with the programming of the terminal, the customer service was good, short waits, they spoke clearly and were understandable.

Switched over and started using PayProtec at the beginning of July, ran lots of charges from July 2nd thru the 10th. I realize there was a holiday in there, but NOTHING hit my account until July 14th. Meanwhile our checking account became overdrawn, and I accumulated as much in overdraft fees as I would have allegedly saved! Called my rep, no answer. Eventually got to HIS boss, nothing there either. Turns out they are not employees but 1099 contractors. Finally tracked down the CEO of the company, and just got off the phone with his assistant. Sorry but they are not going to do anything about the fees, see I was overdrawn in my account on the 3rd day of this fiasco and hadn't gotten enough money deposited to cover things, except if they had done NEXT DAY FUNDING as promised the money would have been there...... Anyway I have their nice little terminal boxed up and ready for them if they want it back, if they had a window I could throw it through!

So this is a warning, if PayProtec approaches you for credit card processing....stay far away.
