Service Adviser training who should pay for it?

First I would like to say "thanks" for the help I received from my last post?

I am going into my 5th year of business and with growth comes more issues. The one that I am facing now is keeping my SA properly trained and updated with effective methods on handling customers.

I came to a conclusion that training for SA's is a tool. A good trained SA is very valuable just like a good technician with all the right tools. When I was a tech I paid for all my tools to help me get the job done quicker and right. When I left the dealerships that I worked for I took my tools, they kept there things they paid for (computers, testers specialty tools etc...). Point is that when a SA quits on you there is no way get your money back.

My reasoning for having my SA's pay for there own training is that when on commission they will make more money for me and them. I believe that they will be more inclined to pay attention to what there learning in class and use it.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Eddie
