Why do some refer to any refrigerant as 'freon'?

Freon® is DuPont's registered version of R12. DuPont's registered version of R134 is called Suva®.

I can understand calling any R12 "Freon", since we pretty much all did for nearly the last century, so it has entered the public domain, like Kleenex... Login to read more.
