I'd say 95% of the failed evaporators in the 70's and 80's with R-12 had pine needles and or oak leaves in the bottom of the case. Almost all had the leak at the bottom of the coil. I was told by some old timers that decaying leaves formed an acid that rotted... Login to read more.
