Hi Al, R12 is dichlorodiflouromethane When moisture gets in there we get hydrochloric and hydroflouric acids.

R134 is tetraflouroethane. This converts to trifluoroacetic acid in the upper atmosphere. I am not sure if it does this inside the a/c system or not... Login to read more.
