Because a leak in an R-12 system will be accompanied by the mineral oil. As stated before in this forum, mineral oil does not wash off as easily as PAG oil does. Therefore, no dye is needed. Even my pathetic Snapon leak detector could fing an R-12 leak. Login to read more.
