Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is
accepting applications for full-time faculty in the
Automotive Technology day program at its Smyrna campus. The
Automotive Technology faculty member is responsible to the
Vice President for Instruction and Accreditation for the
development, implementation, evaluation, modification, and
operation of the Automotive Technology program.
Job Duties
Responsible for providing individualized theory and hands-on
instruction to adult and high school students to prepare
them for employment in the field.
Teach all phases of the Automotive Technology program,
including all eight areas of ASE certification: auto
transaxle, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning,
engine performance, engine repair, brakes, suspension and
steering, and manual drive train and axle as practiced in
theory and on live projects.
Practice and enforce proper workplace safety protocols and
industry PPE in lab areas at all times.
Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual student progress;
maintain student records in the college's student records
management software; maintain appropriate documentation;
submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new
students and placement of graduates.
Actively provide placement and follow up of program
graduates and monitor program placement rates.
Maintain good public relations with business and industry,
maintain an active program advisory committee and cooperate
with outside agencies.
This position will also supervise and follow up on students
participating in cooperative education.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the
Automotive Technology field, preferably within the last
three (3) years.
• Current ASE Master certification and program
accreditation(s) OR have a minimum of four (4) ASE
certifications and agree to actively work towards ASE Master
status within one year.
• Must be available for day program hours of
instruction, Monday-Friday from 7:30-3:30 p.m. including
administrative hours for a total of 37.5 hours per week
(full time).
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-secondary Skilled Trades credential or academic
degree from an accredited institution.
• Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach
students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to inspect,
troubleshoot, service and repair domestic and import
automotive systems utilizing safe and proper methods,
techniques, practices, and equipment for all phases of the
Automotive Technology program.
• Strong hands-on technical background in the field.
• Must be willing to remain current in the
instructional field and maintain personal certifications and
program accreditation(s).
• Must possess computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook,
Teams).
• Must possess the communication skills necessary to
be an effective teacher and interact with high school and
adults.
• Must show evidence of good character, organizational
skills, and mature attitude.
Physical Qualifications:
Walking, bending, sitting, and squatting in order to
demonstrate skills on campus equipment.
Able to use body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or
special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
Communicating for extended periods while lecturing.
Sitting at a computer for extended periods to enter data.
Requires concentrated mental and visual attention; i.e., see
at close range.
Lifting 50 lbs.
Salary Range:
This is an exempt position. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications, education and experience according to salary
guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
Salary range: $49,159 to $64,259.
