Disable SRS Systems in School Cars?
Posted to Educators Forum on 2/16/2022 24 Replies

Hello Educator Colleagues,

Do you disable or remove airbags, curtains and/or seat belt tensioners on the school cars that students use for labs? I warn my students about staying clear of the yellow jacketed cables and associated SRS modules and to disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes before dash & steering wheel work, but it's not uncommon for warnings to go unheeded when they are an hour or so late on finishing a lab. Besides, what student listens to an instructor anyway? They would listen after getting sideways with a deploying airbag boy-howdy!

I never gave it much thought before today but it sure seems like an incredible hazard having these systems left in place on school training cars.

What say you?
