Howdy Bernie. I've assumed that the extra set of diodes you described (4?) are also in full wave bridge, just like the regular 6. This circuit would isolate one leg to a single phase AC supply and result in a nominal 8 vdc isolated supply output. I'm guessing ... Login to read more.
