Looking for silver bullet, HP LaserJet III

I inherited from Earla's department a used LaserJet III printer.

For whatever reason it is no recognized by any OS that I have tried (98, Win2K, XP, ME). I have also tried a different cable. Ditto different parallel port settings in BIOS.
